Jo Hatch
Animal Behaviour Wales
Helping you develop the relationship of your dreams with your dogs and horses
I’m Jo Hatch, a fully qualified animal behaviourist and provisional member of the APBC. My passion is to help owners like you understand how your horse or dog thinks, feels and reacts the way they do and support the building of positive, lasting relationships with them. I use positive, humane, evidence based, effective strategies to support behavioural change and improvement.
Our dogs and horses can display behaviours that are undesirable, or dangerous, for themselves, other animals and for us. These include, aggression, separation anxiety, fear, reactivity, loading and travelling issues, difficulties with the vets and other professionals, being uncatchable, bolting, bucking or refusing to move at all! By working with me, you’ll be supported, have a plan, an insight into the motivations behind the behaviour, as well as new methods and strategies to improve the issues themselves. This helps to reduce your stress and anxiety, rebuilding your confidence and relationship, to give you the horse or dog of your dreams.
How Can I Help You?
Behaviour Consultancy
Using, a scientific, evidence based approach, I establish the underlying cause of behavioural problems and plan for successful solutions during the initial consultancy meeting.
A behaviour plan is created for you following the initial consultancy, which we’ll review in follow up sessions, to ensure positive progression.
I only use proven, kind and minimally aversive methods and will coach you while we address behavioural issues.
Book a free, no-obligation 15 minute phone call with me to have a chat about how I can help.
Veterinary referrals are needed before consultancy, to rule out pain and other health issues. Please see the vet referral page.
Training and Coaching
One to one coaching sessions help to improve the communication and relationship between you and your dog or horse. They can also focus on minor behavioural issues or preparation you may need support with, such as vet preparation.
I use learning theory and positive teaching methods, to help you understand and meet your animals' needs, improve their performance and willingness to engage with you.
I can also work directly with your animal, training them to accelerate improvement, or to resolve a behavioural problem where perhaps you struggle for time or confidence. I will then work with you to support these changes.

Workshop and Presentations
I offer a range of talks and workshops to meet your needs and that of your horse.
Sessions can focus on specific horse problems; such as worming, clipping, trailer loading, or more general considerations, such as vet preparation, spookiness or using kinder, more positive training methods and equipment.
I also provide sessions based on your needs, these focus on issues such as, fear, nervousness and lack of confidence when riding, hacking or handling horses.
I'm always happy to create bespoke workshops and presentations, so if you, friends or your riding club have any ideas, get in touch. I’d love to hear from you!
